Remember Remember, To Give In Movember

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I’m a little late putting this info out this year but… I am once again growing a moustache for Movember – team name ‘Caught by the Fuzz’.

After going from 70s porno, through “The Chopper”, to a bizarre creation that went the full width of my face last year, I decided to go “minimal” this time around, with the “Oliver Hardy”:

mo2009

(This was taken about a week ago)

The reason I put down my razor for one month each year is to help raise awareness and funds for men’s health – specifically prostate cancer and depression in men (Beyond Blue)
What many people don’t appreciate is that close to 3,000 men die of prostate cancer each year in Australia and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime – many of whom don’t seek help. Facts like these continue to convince me I should get involved and I am hoping that you will support me.

To sponsor my Mo, simply click this link: http://au.movember.com/mospace/34021/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account
Alternatively…
If you prefer to make a cash donation (after your big win on the Melbourne Cup!) let me know and I’ll sort out a receipt for you
OR
Write a cheque payable to ‘Movember Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number : 34021 and post it to:
Movember Foundation, PO Box 292, Prahran, VIC, 3181
Remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Movember is now in its sixth year and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCFA) and beyondblue: the national depression initiative. Check out further details at: http://au.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

http://au.movember.com has heaps of useful information.

Thank you
Gary

I Am Very Happy For Them

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Now those who know me, have been following this blog, or understand the principles on which I build my online business, will also know that I have become increasingly concerned with the various schemes, tricks, hype and nonsense that is costing people more and more money, while not taking them any closer to their dreams.

I am also a strong advocate of sticking to a plan, and not allowing the endless stream of bright lights and impressive audio/video presentations to distract you.

So I hope you will realise that I don’t say this lightly, flippantly or casually – but I am excited for a bunch of people I have known for some time now. Originally formed around a different network marketing business, they have recently started working with LHN International.

Now the reason I am excited for them is because they have been having almost zero resistance when they talk to people about this business, and people who genuinely deserve success have finally started making more money than they spend. OK, so we’re talking in the order of about a couple hundred bucks per month – but that’s something they can build on.

I didn’t really take much notice when a few people started telling me about LHN International. But as I heard more and more about it, I decided to take a look. Here’s what I found, and this explains why people are finding almost no resistance…

  • There is no joining fee
  • There is no annual distributor renewal fee
  • The monthly purchase requirement is just $30
  • There is a HUGE charitable aspect to the company

The products are fairly predictable – falling into the health and lifestyle category as so many of these things do. But if you want to make money, and take regular vitamin supplements, for example, then I would suggest that simply switching to LHN International will put you on a very good path.

Most people find the majority of MLM and network marketing businesses hard to talk about. What I am seeing with this is a very different proposition entirely. People are happily talking about LHN and finding others to be VERY responsive.

Could this turn into one of the great MLM success stories? I believe it will, and I am delighted with that thought. It sits very well with my own desires to see things work for the “little guys”.

LHN has also become a tiny bit more desirable as a business, because now you can join with ME as your sponsor – do you need to know any more than that? :)

Would You Know What To Do With This?

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

So I was only thinking yesterday about the sort of script-based solutions that are marketed to people when, lo and behold, a perfect example of what I had in mind drops straight into my Inbox…

Now I am not going to name names, I am not even going to identify the script concerned – that’s not important to me, but the underlying problem IS. You see, this Autoresponder script is presented as a way of cutting costs; instead of paying GetResponse or AWeber a monthly fee, just pay 20 bucks once and manage your email campaigns for no cost, forever.

At first I thought I was going to find a “one off lifetime” subscription to an email marketing service – there was an impressive list of features, and it really did tick all the boxes. So when I got to the “call to action” I was a) surprised to find the prices was $19.95 and b) slightly bemused to discover that this is a PHP script.

Now let me ask you this – how many of you can do one or more of the following?

  • Install a PHP script on a web hosting account
  • Create scheduled CRON jobs on a web hosting account
  • Debug and tweak PHP code when issues arise
  • Negotiate white-listing agreements with service providers to ensure deliverability
  • Above all else – who has got the ability to run this on a server with no hosting fees?

You see, you may not pay the autoresponder people every month, but you DO need high quality, reliable servers, you need the ability to jump in and fix code if something goes wrong (and it will), and you need to ensure that your emails will not get blocked en route.

Fair enough, these guys were offering script installations for $7 – but what of ongoing support and maintenance? Either they are going to make money from you this way, or else they don’t care, and just want to make the one-off sale, get your contact details, and then spam you.

Nice huh?

This is why I use a monthly subscription service – I know that the people I use are experienced, they SPECIALISE in email marketing and the delivery of the emails. I pay them for peace of mind, so I don’t have to worry about code maintenance, and I certainly don’t have to worry about whether my emails get through or not!

In fact, when I first put Express Marketer online, I was sending emails from my own server, using very simple server-side code. Within a few hours I had people complaining that they weren’t getting their introduction/welcome mails, and it didn’t take long before I switched over to using a paid AR service.

Since that day there has been not one failure to my knowledge.

So what is my point here? Yet again, there are what I consider to be “shoddy” tactics being employed. People want to save money, and this is touted as a way of doing that, but it’s really a bit of exploitation, and frankly distasteful.

It all comes back to that ultimate gauge by which you can measure yourself and your business – how much value are you offering? At $19.95 (plus $7 installation), this script has the appearance of being very good value indeed, but the mess it will leave most people in, and the real costs (when you consider hosting fees etc.) make this a very VERY poor deal indeed.

So will you ever see me selling scripts? To be honest, I don’t think so. But let’s imagine for a moment that I did, that script would be backed up with a full explanation of what it can and cannot do, what it does and does not include, and the offer of ongoing assistance if you felt the need for such a script.

Look, overall, scripts are not inherently bad, but you really need to be aware of what is involved, and whether you want to get your hands quite that dirty; ultimately do you desire to be a techie, or a marketer?

Most people I deal with would burst into tears if you suggested that they need to become part time geeks! I suspect you may have similar misgivings.

Until next time…

Exploitation

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I got into a conversation on Facebook about exploitation of ignorance, and it was put to me that ALL capitalism relies on that very thing. I actually disagree, and tend to agree much more with the view “offer enough value and success and money will follow”.

Now a lot depends here on how you interpret the word “exploitation”. On the one hand it is simply using a situation to advantage, for example if someone needs their lawn mowing, and can’t or won’t do it, then someone else can “exploit” the situation by offering to do the job in exchange for money.

That’s what we all do, to a certain degree, every day, and with this usage of the word, yes I agree that capitalism relies on it.

However, let’s revisit the lawn situation and imagine that the owner of the lawn is approached by someone who tells them they can do the work, but mowing a lawn is incredibly difficult, hardly anyone else does it, and the job will cost $5000. Furthermore, let’s also imagine that this person also now exaggerates the issue, creating a sense of urgency, resulting in the owner handing over far too much cash for a simple job, but feeling relieved that all these major issues are going to be resolved for them, without having to do any work themselves.

That to me is unfair exploitation – it is one thing to present facts, and to live or die by the value you represent. But when you stray wildly from this, and basically con people, that is totally unacceptable.

THIS is my big problem with Internet Marketing at the moment. There are far too many people offering systems that “do it all for you” and worse still, when you get into these systems they don’t really help you do anything except further promote that self-same system! Worse still, people’s ignorance of the technical stuff, people’s fears (fed by the media hyping up the global financial whatsit), and their basic lack of self-belief are combined, built on, twisted, and used to amplify pain people are feeling.

Most people are expected to buy things and then fail – in fact the industry uses “5% end up with the money” as a mantra, and as an unbreakable truth that cannot be altered. Maybe that statistic IS true and maybe it is NOT possible to change, but the way it is used is pretty cynical.

The thing is, most people are being taught to go about this stuff the WRONG way, which is why you see so many spammers on the various social sites. Many aren’t taught at all, and they end up copying the spammers because that’s what they see, and they assume that’s how it is done.

After a while they will either give up on IM or they will have been exposed to just enough information to “hook” them, and also having been exposed to a handful of names time and time again.

So they are hooked, they realise that what they have done so far does not work, and they feel sure there must be something that’s not being revealed to them, something more, some other techniques they need to hear about… that’s when they remember hearing about the comprehensive systems offered by people whose names they keep reading about, they remember the emails in their box about how the launch of a system was swamped by unprecedented sign-ups, that actually led to a whole server crumbling under the load!

That’s powerful stuff, and it’s powerful stuff that has been drip-fed to them over an extended period of time. They know there is something to this, they may even have experience a small amount of success in what they are doing – that’s when they decide it IS worth handing thousands of dollars to one of the big-wigs after all….

The thing is, they probably then go on to achieve a lot of success – justifying (to them) the level of investment they had to make.

But what of those who simply cannot afford to spend 1000s of dollars on these things? What of the people who consider putting their families at risk? These people mostly give up the game, with a renewed belief that “money comes to money” and “you have to have money to make money”.

It’s all BULL, it’s a horrid form of exploitation, and yes, you guessed it, I have much better solutions!

Are these solutions going to cost money? Most of them, yes.

Will these solutions make ME money? Yes, I make money by referring you or selling, that’s the business I am in

Will these solutions cost you an arm and a leg? NO WAY – a buck or 2 per day is hardly extortionate

Will you get sub-standard solutions and information? NO WAY – in fact, much of the information you will receive may well surpass that provided by some of the expensive systems.

So how is it possible to provide this type of information cheaply, when others are charging so much. The answer is the degree of exploitation being employed. In my case, I believe in offering good, solid tools and information for a fair price that puts it in the reach of the majority. Others take a different view – using tactics to push certain individuals towards the higher-priced systems and solutions. A major driver in this is the exploitation of ignorance.

So to recap… what it boils down to is this – do I want to make out that cutting lawns is a massively complex operation, milking incredible amounts of cash from people until such time that I am found out, and I then have to move on to another con trick, or do I want to inform people of how simple it all is, inform them that it will take a bit of effort etc. and even offer to mow the lawn for them for a fair price?

The latter is what will allow me to sleep at night – how about you?

Fanfare for the Common Man

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

So I have been reading a lot of the product launches lately, and I have noticed a trend that mirrors my experience in the small business software world – please bear with me, there IS a point to all this…

I have been involved with many companies in the past, who start off by offering fantastic value to small business operators, drastically under-cutting the prices of the big players in the market, and achieving a loyal customer base very quickly. Over time the software is improved, tweaked, and larger companies get interested in being clients/users. This in turn leads to an expansion in the company producing the software, and eventually a review of the business, producing processes more closely aligned to “big business” clients.

When this happens, the circle is complete; a small, efficient, bold-as-brass upstart is absorbed into the establishment, forgets its roots and foundations, and becomes yet another vendor of over-priced products. The original client base slowly gets forgotten.

So, let’s take this story and see how it applies to online marketing… to be honest, I am SICK AND TIRED of some of the stuff being pumped out lately. I have seen far far too many scenarios that go a little like this:

1. Person or Company X put out some great PR and hype in relation to how they provide free and cheap tools and information, that will really help the little guy share in the success.

2. Over time, various updates and articles start to talk in terms of “successful people spend lots of money on tools and education”. While true, and while valid – a LOT of this talk is grooming you to a mindset where you will happily pay money to these people.

3. Ultimately a new and improved service is launched, perhaps in conjunction with another “big name” – only now, instead of being a few bucks – it’s serious money. But hey, serious people will pay serious money, right?

What annoys me, similar to what annoys me with the small business software world, is not the people doing this – hey, if they want to move themselves into a, quite frankly, more lucrative but more competitive market, then so be it. No, what annoys me is that those people who need the cheaper solutions, who ARE serious but don’t have serious dollars to spare – these people get left behind every single time.

I will be brutally honest with you here – if you’re going to make a success online then you WILL need to invest time and money. If you’re on a limited budget then you are going to have to invest more time for sure.

BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS!!!!

Sorry for shouting, but it’s true. Some courses and systems will cost you plenty of up-front dollars, or hefty subscriptions. Is the content worth it? More than likely, but that doesn’t make it any more affordable for the ordinary punter – and forget all that “can you afford NOT to do this” crap – it’s a sales/marketing device!

No, there is a vast “underclass” of serious online marketers with limited budgets, unlimited desire, and they keep getting crapped on over and over and over.

Do I have solutions? You bet – and in many ways perhaps this rant itself is a marketing technique. Ultimately I want to continue to make money, and I am not yet in the position where I can give everything away for free (though that would be nice!)

But do I have to rip people off in the process? NO WAY!

This why you won’t see recommendations from me for expensive things – my recommended traffic education is 30 bucks per month (a small percentage of what others charge for the same information), my recommended list building tool is under 10 bucks per month. My recommended mail software is the same low flat rate regardless of how many people in your list!

My own toolkit costs 17 bucks per month and I often give it away for FREE – if people partner with me, either through product purchase or my back end businesses, I reward them rather than ripping them off!

Realistically I would say it’s possible to arm yourself with adequate tools for less than $70 per month – and in all cases you can make money by referring others to the same tools!

This makes the task of funding much easier – for example when I first started taking this stuff seriously, I covered auto ship for a business and all my tool subscriptions by simply packing in smoking. For one of the higher priced solutions, I would have had to given up a lot more without doubt.

So, don’t buy into the hype, don’t get yourself into financial trouble – hook into my free email series, mail me, skype me, phone me or connect with me on Twitter. I’ll show you the affordable way to get this stuff going, and furthermore I promise that I, and Avallach Technology, will never abandon the little guy by chasing the corporate dollars.

THAT is my 100% money-back, cast iron guarantee, my “usp” and my total philosophy, all wrapped up in one.

I hope you like it – I know I do

Stimulus Cash – Will You Waste It?

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

The Australian Government is currently in the middle of a massive cash hand-back, giving tax-payers up to $900 each in an effort to stimulate the nation’s economy. The idea is that people will rush out and spend the money, giving Aussie retailers a shot in the arm, and giving the economy of a bit of a nudge.

Some people will do this, some will put it into the bank, some will pay off debt, and others will use it in purchases that result in the money leaving our shores. A few people will use the money differently and, in my opinion, a lot more wisely…

Ask yourself this – what would you prefer, a plasma TV right now, or a plasma TV at some point in the near future, plus the cash to deck out your theatre room, the funds to install a surround-sound system, and still more money coming in even after you have done all that?

Most people will opt for the “plasma now” option – perhaps it’s some strange rendering of the “bird in the hand” advice their parents taught them. A minority though will recognise the opportunity to achieve much more with the money.

Let’s assume you’re one of the lucky ones who gets the full $900 – now go ahead and spend $700 on anything you like, anything at all. Yes it will give you some instant gratification I am sure, but I promise you now, the other $200 is going to give you so much more over time.

By following an incredibly simple plan, that $200 can be invested in a way that will easily create an ongoing income for you. It is up to you whether that income is simply a few hundred dollars extra to top up your main wages, or enough to replace your full time income (and beyond). Whatever your goal is, that small sacrifice now will repay you, over and over again.

This is no joke – thousands of people are doing it already. The question is, plasma now, or plasma plus extras later?

Only you can answer that one.

If you decide on the latter – get in touch and I will show you how.

From Strength To Strength

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

CTWT is going in the right direction, and no mistake. A new professional commercial was unveiled yesterday, and already it is spreading across the globe. The commercial should give people a better idea of what CTWT is about, and what it IS about may surprise a few people.

It’s NOT about the business, let’s be honest you can pretty much join a business per minute for weeks on end, and still have more options open to you. What is more, is there much difference in any of the opportunities? Trust me on this, no there isn’t.

No, where CTWT is different, what CTWT offers that many can’t, is the team. If you’ve ever tried networking before, if you’ve ever felt abandoned by sponsors, if you’re wondering where and how you should go from here… you will be pleasantly surprised by the family feeling that CTWT offers.

Now, some may wonder why I am such a big supporter of CTWT, and why I donate my time on the technical stuff. The answer is simple, I truly believe that this approach to online business is a winner. The way that people band together, the way that you see people develop new skills, and the willingness of people to step up and do what is needed for everyone’s benefit – it is truly inspiring.

Who said that trying to secure a better future had to be selfish?

Oh and for those who are interested, the new commercial can be seen on the page I’ve completed today…

Enjoy
