Couple of New Sites

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Initial development has been completed on a couple of new sites, both of interest to people seeking to become financially independent, and both demonstrating the power of my favourite new tool- blogging.

Depending on where you are in terms of developing your own business, you may find the information about Real Estate Investment and Operating a Home Business to be of use.

Certainly plenty of food for thought – perhaps inspiration for your next business venture?

Online Business Essential Toolkit

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

It doesn’t matter if you are new to this industry, a seasoned campaigner, or somewhere in between, the fact is you will need a number of basic things to help you build an online business.

These basics are independent of the type of business you are building, they are applicable across all sectors and interests, and will be invaluable whether you’re promoting affiliate products, membership systems, MLM opportunities or simply promoting your own products or services.

All business, in a nutshell, is composed of 3 main elements; production, marketing and sales. Profits are generated by these activities, and any other component is simply a support service to these 3 central players.

So how do these translate to the online world? Firstly, your product can be pretty much anything, from digital downloads, through subscriptions, all the way to an offline product or service.

Sales of course are like any other business – they represent the income for your business, preferably from a large number of customers, and on an ongoing basis.

Marketing is the important piece in the middle. It is marketing that puts your product(s) in front of people, it is marketing that provides people with an opportunity to become your customer, and it is marketing that reassures them that you and your product are worthy of their investment.

I don’t know about you, but when I think about those points, I start to realise a couple of interesting things; the product is irrelevant and sales are simply a by-product of marketing. This really does drive home a key message – that online business pretty much boils down to marketing.

Stop and think about that for a while – what does it mean? Well it probably means that you, just as I have done in the past, are focusing on the wrong things. It means that putting 90% of your effort into the product, and 10% into marketing is fundamentally flawed. It means that those who hope to avoid getting involved in that “marketing” stuff are going to be disappointed one way or the other.

So what’s all this got to do with an “Essential Toolkit”? Well, now we have identified the task ahead of us, we are able to assess the tools we need, and perhaps toss aside some that have the wrong focus.

At an absolute minimum, the bare toolkit consists of YOU and a computer. As I have said many times before, YOU are your business, YOU are the key product that’s being sold, and YOU are the one who needs to put in the effort to build your business.

A computer is also essential for online business – I guess you could operate entirely from an Internet cafe, but that’s probably not ideal.

Now, beyond these core essentials there really is just one more ingredient that will provide the foundation on which to build your future. Education.

Whether it is getting started, learning how to build a prospect list, refining existing techniques, or seeking inspiration, education is the key.

No matter who you are, there will be times when you hit a wall, need inspiration or encounter something of which you have no prior experience. This is where ongoing investment in yourself and self-education is vital. Reading books, watching videos, learning techniques – all these things will help over time.

This aspect is a particular issue for people with no prior experience of online business, networking or marketing. Unfortunately this group of people are easily targetted for a quick buck, resulting in them receiving little or no training, being given bad (or at best, useless) advice, or being sold systems that claim to do it all for them.

This is why I have no hesitation in recommending Gail Metcalf’s Network Marketing Machine

Gail has developed a collection of incredibly useful tools, resources and materials that can underpin any marketing effort. On top of this though, not only are you provided the tools, but easy-to-follow guides will walk you through everything step by step.

Yes, you do still need to do the work yourself, including an hour or two per day on marketing activities, but The Network Marketing Machine provides ways of building any business, using generic marketing tools, and NOT requiring you to cold sell, hassle your relatives, or any of the other things that lead to us being labelled “scammers”.

The system even builds in some very simple methods of revenue generation, but the main benefit, I believe, is how the education you will gain by following the steps.

Do yourself and your business a favour; take a look at The Network Marketing Machine today!

A Personal Letter

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Dear Friend,

It is not easy to write this letter, because I do so knowing two things; what I am about to tell you is something that has the potential to change your life dramatically, yet at the same time you will scoff or ridicule me.

That’s fine, the ridicule I can stand because I’ve heard it all too often. But what will really hurt is knowing that you will walk away from something that would lead to so many wonderful things for you and your family.

As you know, I have been very keen on working for myself for some time now, and despite various efforts it just hasn’t clicked into place yet. The thing is, I’ve actually learned a lot of things along the way, and have gained a good understanding of what works, and what will not.

So it was good timing for me to be introduced to something I have been part of for a short while now. Before I go any further, let me tell you up front that this is, as you no doubt suspect, a network marketing business. The difference is not the product, the company, or even the compensation plan (although all 3 are excellent) – no, this time the difference is the way the team I am with operates.

The team is called “Changing The World Together” and they have one very simple goal; to work together co-operatively in order to build a business for the whole team. To put it another way, it’s not like the traditional Network Marketing, I don’t have to spend all my time trying to sponsor people into my part of the network. What I DO do though is spend time on things I am able to do, and contribute those to the overall team effort.

There will be 5 people put under me regardless, so instead of me worrying about my own down-line, what I do now is work with my team colleagues, building a single business. Someone else takes care of where new people are added to the business – it’s amazing really.

So yes, I know you will laugh at me and my “scamming” again, but please I ask you, stop and think about it for a moment. This is a network marketing business that is being done the right way. There are real products (rather than, for example, paid memberships to a web site that simply sells more paid memberships to the same site) and the team WILL be built under everyone. People are advertising the same web address, and sharing tips and techniques for bringing new people to the business.

This is Network Marketing done in the best possible way – if this approach does not work, then NO approach will work, and we already know that some methods DO work because there are people earning a living from network marketing!

I apologise if this sounds like a begging letter, or a desperate plea; the difference this time is I am NOT so desperate for people to join that I have to do hard selling to my friends and family. No, the reason I sound desperate THIS time is because I really don’t want you to miss out, and I really want you to have the chance to change your life.

If you can bring yourself to think seriously about this for a moment then please, I urge you, visit the web site:

Changing The World Together

Thanks

Online Business Detox

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

There is an interesting phenomenon in the online marketing business and it goes by the name of “program hopping”. Many of you will have encountered it, most of you will have succumbed to it, and a lot of you will continue to fall victim to it!

I know from personal experience how easy it is to jump from one “next best thing” to another. You may even, like me, have justified it in your mind as “research”. You may have kidded yourself that you were “diversifying” or “building multiple streams of income”.

There is nothing wrong with research, and certainly much benefit to be gained from diversification, but it needs to be done the right way. Remember the saying “walk before you can run”? That applies to online marketing on many levels.

So make a commitment to yourself right now; identify your PRIMARY business and give a minimum of 90 days where you are focused on that and that alone. Ignore any other “great opportunity” that comes your way and build your primary business.

Once your core business is up and running, once it is providing you with income, and once you get to where it needs minimum attention to KEEP running, that is the point at which you can look to add another income stream.

I recently made a similar commitment to Changing The World 2Gether, and even went so far as to CANCEL memberships of various systems I had joined. It was actually quite a sobering experience to realise just how many things I had joined in the last 12 months for “research purposes”. Even more sobering was realising how much I had spent, and was continuing to spend on systems that were simply gathering dust.

So my “biz op detox” went a little like this – I cancelled anything that had a physical product being sold via MLM. I cancelled membership of systems that paid out on referring other members. I even dropped my Direct Matches account back down to free status.

The money being spent on those systems can now be used on the ONE BUSINESS that I am focused on for a minimum of 90 days.

Like a more conventional “detox” I feel a heck of a lot better, my focus is very clearly defined, and my time and energy are being used more effectively. The previous approach was in danger of derailing my successful business activities.

If this sounds like you, start your business detox TODAY!

Marketing? Get a Lens

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Now many of you may already know about Squidoo Lenses, but for those who don’t you seriously need to check them out.

They cost nothing, they provide some great features, and you can create very powerful marketing pages for your business in no time at all.

For example, the team at Changing The World 2gether currently run 2 lenses – one was created by me, the other was created by a fellow team member who had absolutely minimal web page experience. In fact, his lens is the main one, mine was just a mini-project…

The main lens can be seen here and demonstrates the ability to include text, images, videos, relevant content links etc.

The CTWT Hosting Lens (web hosting services for the team) can be seen here and includes an RSS feed of this blog!

So let’s recap; they’re free, they’re easy to use and, at the time of writing, Squidoo had an Alexa Rating of 551! Isn’t that a no-brainer??

The Main CTWT Lens has achieved a top 10 rating in the Home Business category and we have started to see traffic and opt-ins from that source. Why wouldn’t you use it?

Gaz

It’s an interesting question isn’t it? At first glance you would think it is very easy to answer. But what if someone were to probe your response more deeply?

A typical reply might be “I would pay off my mortgage/debts, give up my job, and spend more time with my family”, or it might be “I’d buy my dream car and go on my dream holiday”, or it might be “I’d devote time to doing charity work”.

But think about what being financially independent means. It means leaving behind an entire lifestyle, approach to life, and overall framework that has been part of your very being ever since you were born.

It means stepping aside from a life that clearly you are not 100% satisfied with, but then stepping into completely unknown territory!

Make no mistake, achieving financial independence is a worthy goal, but it is something you need to prepare for in advance.

I’m sure we all appreciate the value of setting our goals, holding a clear picture in our mind of where we want to be in 3, 6, 9, 12 months and beyond. But part of that planning needs to take into account the radical lifestyle change that will come.

How will we manage our day? Our week? How will we ensure that we achieve the work-life balance we seek?

Don’t wait until the change is upon you, and you easily fall into the trap of your time being consumed by your business; start work on the blueprint for your new life today, and help ensure that you achieve what it is you actually set out to do.

Is Honesty The Best Policy?

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

OK, so let’s answer that one right here, before going any further.

In terms of conducting business, and more specifically a network marketing business, I believe that, yes, honesty IS the best policy.

“Hello there, my name is Gary Wilmot, and I run a highly successful business and I want to show YOU how to share in that success for FREE!”

OK, hang on a minute, in the spirit of the topic above, let’s rephrase that…

“Yes my name is indeed Gary, and I am currently working full-time as a database consultant / systems analyst. I’m actually just like a lot of people out there, I hold down a full-time job to pay the bills, and I run a couple of home-based business ventures too.

One is a straightforward web hosting business, the other involves a couple of network marketing systems. The reason for these home-based efforts is to supplement my main income, and eventually to provide my family with a degree of financial independence.”

There you go, that was much better wasn’t it? No pretending to be the head of a major international independent corporation, and no declarations of earning thousands of dollars for next-to-no work (and all achieved in about 3 days!)

That is honesty, and that is transparency, two themes that are central to my business philosophy, and ones that I believe many other people will share, and respond to. You see, I don’t NEED to pretend to be something I am not, I have a few things in place that I believe in, and I have a network that is building on strong foundations.

When I surf around business-oriented networking sites (Yuwie and DirectMatches in the main) I see a constant stream of spam, smoke and mirrors. You introduce yourself to someone, and they reply with something along the lines of “Nice to meet you, tell me about your business. By the way you should look at this system, it’s making 1000s every day, so here’s the link”.

The thing is, the majority of people you might meet on those sites are doing something very similar so, after a while, you start automatically filtering this “noise” out. This is such a shame, because these networking sites are incredibly powerful tools for everyone, with real connections to be made on a business level, and socially. I love meeting people online from the world over, but spam is spam no matter what language it speaks.

So are people inherently liars, with a desire to spam the hell out of everyone? NO WAY!

They do this because they have a dream, and they have learned from their system’s instructions that this is the way to do it. In the current climate, maybe it is one way of doing things. With so many people, pulling in so many different directions, there is perhaps a need to get your message across quickly and efficiently. The thing is though, most people will automatically filter you out, no matter how great your system may actually be.

So is there an alternative? You might have guessed it already, but yes I think there is. Honesty.

Actually, not just honesty, but also throw in transparency, respect for others, and making genuine connections with your fellow inhabitants of this planet.

To give an example, when I make a new connection with someone online, I generally start out by leaving a comment on their profile page, thanking them for the “friend add”. I use their name because I bothered to check it, maybe I say something nice about their profile page (if I liked it) and I wish them a good day (or something similar) – you get the idea I’m sure.

What I don’t say is anything about the systems I use, nor do I explicitly give them referral links. They can of course take a look at my profile, or web sites; what they do beyond that point is up to them.

This approach has given me 2 things; contact with some really lovely people that I have things in common with, and some good business leads and contacts. Many fall into BOTH categories.

When it comes to working with the people I sponsor, I again use honesty. If I sell them a story that doesn’t pan out, they will very quickly lose trust and respect in me, and faith in the system. No, what I offer them is honesty, support, advice, and encouragement. They of course need to provide the desire, effort, and willingness to stick at it for more than 5 minutes, but they do all that within a supportive environment.

So why bother using this approach? Well, for one thing, it allows people to move beyond the superficial level, fosters real relationships, and leads to ways of working smarter rather than harder. It also frees up some of the time that would be spent spamming everyone with referral links; time that can be spent on working with your team, developing your business, or communicating with online friends in meaningful ways.

Cut away the need to “act out” a role, and that energy can be used far more productively; even freeing up time to spend with your family!

So why do I think this approach works? The key to that is understanding WHO these marketers you meet online actually are. The majority are NOT MLM gurus, nor are they running a large company. Most of them are office workers, housewives, students, IT guys, truck drivers, landscape gardeners etc. etc. In other words, they are ordinary people like you, trying to earn extra income, and gain access to some of the good things that a bit of wealth can provide.

The current methods are turning us into faceless robots, typing and clicking for hours on end, acting out online versions of the “foot in the door” salesman! We as a global community should be connecting at deeper levels, not jumping from the wage slavery frying pan into the “small cog in a giant internet money making machine” fire.

Let’s keep it honest guys, let’s be more transparent and let people know we are just trying to do the right thing for our family. People will respect that and, what is more, it is something they will continue to respect because there is no mask to slip off.

People respond to people, so just be yourself.

Be a Leader

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

“Leader” is one of the terms that gets a lot “airplay” in this industry, but what does it really mean, and what does it mean to “Be a Leader” in a home-based business?

In a traditional workplace context, a leader may be seen as someone who can manage a department, someone who is willing to make tough decisions, or someone who is comfortable hiring and firing. That may well be valid in the job setting, but this is absolutely NOT the type of leadership I am talking about here.

For my money, the mark of a true leader in the MLM context is not someone who knows everything, is not someone who is able to manage a team of 30 telesales people, and is not someone who makes motivational speeches. Sure, leaders may well have one or more of these qualities AS WELL, and more often than not they do, but the key for me is in the phrase “leading by example”.

A true leader in this industry is someone who “walks the walk”; they buy the product, they are active in business building, and they stand up to be counted. Effective leaders are generally good role models, willing to share information and experience, happy to help people learn, and they also realise that the right people will follow voluntarily; you quite simply cannot achieve meaningful, sustained success by coercion.

To be a leader, you need to put yourself “out there” so people can get to know you, get to know what you stand for, and learn from you (directly or indirectly). Putting yourself up on public display can be a little disconcerting at first, but the age old advice of “be yourself” is just as applicable here as it is in a job interview!

The network marketing business is all about people, connections, and building relationships. Leaders are those who have realised this, and have effectively marketed themselves rather than focusing on their products. This approach attracts people to your business who already like you, already want to deal with you and, having heard what you are doing, are already wanting to emulate you.

This isn’t an ego thing though, this is about making genuine connections, and building real relationships with your business contacts. If those ties are strong enough, they will last, and your business will thrive, having been established on firm foundations.

If you focus on hard-selling and coercing people, you MIGHT get some initial success, but at some point the house of cards will surely fall. Forget about selling your product, forget about trying to convince people, build your business the right way; Be a Leader.

Free Recycling Report

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

In what I hope will become a regular feature, allow me to introduce you to one of my latest sites, developed as a “niche” site; The Recycling Report.

Niche sites have become very fashionable of late, and provide a way for entrepreneurs to tap into a focused market, combining a series of methods to monetise the niche site. A typical site will contain good information relating to the subject area, offer free relevant tools or reports, and combine diverse elements such as pay-per-click adverts, Amazon, Clickbank, eBay and paid downloads such as eBooks.

When developing a site such as The Recycling Report there are a number of core essentials you will want to put in place; the main difference is in how you pull these things together:

  • Domain Name
  • Web Hosting
  • Blog
  • Squeeze Page
  • Lead Capture
  • Niche information, articles and downloads

The starting point for a web site is, not surprisingly, securing web space and a domain name for your site. My own experience leads me to believe that, in the long run, it is better to pay a reasonable fee for hosting. By paying a few dollars per month, you generally get all the functionality and capacity you need for your online business activity.

A blog is an incredibly powerful and flexible tool for publishing information and articles. Configured correctly, a blog can help increase your site’s visibility, and with modern blogging software you can easily provide links, banner graphics and relevant ads. This helps in to ways; one it’s another way of monetising your niche, and secondly it can provide external links into your key product pages.

You probably want to set your own blog up on the niche domain – e.g. nichedomain.com/blog, or blog.nichedomain.com. This way you retain full control over the blog content and the look and feel. You also make it easy to “flip” the niche site later on (if you so desire), selling the site and the blog as a single package.

For the niche site itself, you will want to set up a subscription list / newsletter, so you can keep your subscribers informed of updates and product news.

The contact information will have been obtained through a lead capture system, which in turn was probably integrated into you main niche squeeze page – e.g. offering a free report in exchange for someone’s contact details.

You will also want to keep the niche site relevant and fresh, by posting articles, links, relevant affiliate products – and of course, keeping your blog active as well.

Isn’t this a lot of work?

I can hear you asking the question now – and the short answer is “Yes it is”

However, the longer version of the answer helps you to work out who it is a lot of work for.

Some of my niche sites are created as follows:

  • Register domain and hosting space via CTWT Hosting
  • Install WordPress blogging sofware via hosting control panel – painless
  • Upload suitable WordPress themes and plugins
  • Research products, affiliate schemes and articles for the niche

After doing a few of these, some of the aspects become second nature, but the product and article research still requires a chunk of time.

I will look at time-saving techniques in a later post – including a way to set up a niche site with very little effort.

Until next time, all the very best in all that you do

Is Online MLM a Real Business?

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

The answer to this question is both “yes” and “no” – let me explain…

In the sense that MLM can provide you with an income, and that this income will need to be accounted for with the tax man, and the creation of this income requires you to grow your “organisation” – yes it is a business.

But it’s NOTHING like a typical bricks-and-mortar business that most people associate with the word. In fact, Ann Sieg (of Renegade Network Marketer fame) summed it up quite well as a “solution” rather than a “business”.

You see, what people actually build in MLM is a network of consumers, some of whom also generate retail sales. Fundamentally though, MLM “business owners” essentially consume a product, and actively encourage others to do the same. These new consumers are shown how to obtain the product at wholesale price (by becoming a distributor) and so the network grows.

I don’t for one minute wish people to infer that MLM does not require much effort; the reality is you still need to build the organisation, and in many ways we have an uphill struggle due to the scepticism MLM inspires in people.

But when you break it down it is very simple – you consume product, you encourage others to do the same.

Imagine if all food and consumer goods were sold in this way? Wouldn’t the world be a much better place?

Think about it, tell me what you think.
